Manage the Notification Area in Windows 7

Problem

You might want to remove an icon from the notification area. Perhaps you’d like to have all icons visible at all times. Whatever it is, you need to manage the notification area in Windows 7.

Solution

This one is rather simple.

Firstly, customize notification icons

Navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons. You can do this by right-clicking your clock and selecting customize notification icons.

A Windows 7 context menu.

Lastly, tweak settings

Note that here you may change the visibility settings for each application, or make it so that none of the icons are ever hidden. If you’d like to set system icons (action center, network connection, &c.) on or off click turn system icons on or off.
